Social media is very useful, but it has many disadvantages also. And it’s more troublesome to liars, hypocrites and people with double standards to hide their true identity. There have been many instances when such ‘celebrities’ have been exposed based on their old tweets or facebook posts. Something similar happened again yesterday, when the prestigious Padma Awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day of India.
Padma Awards are the highest civilian awards after Bharat Ratna. There are 3 Padma Awards – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri – in order of their merit. One of the Indian movie artist, Anupam Kher, has been given the Padma Bhushan award. He is the most trolled person among other awardees this time on twitter and FB now. Hashtags like ‘PadmaAward4Bhakts’ are trending. It’s because he is an open supporter of the present central government, the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) and PM Modi. The supporters of Modi are trolled as Bhakts. Most of the awardees are the supporters of BJP and Modi, and hence the allegation that the government has been unfair and biased in selecting the awardees.
This just revealed the changing faces of some hypocrites like Anupam Kher, who has tied himself with various people in the past for his own gains. The clever folks on social media unearthed one of his old tweets of 2010 when he criticized the selection of a Padma awardee back then and said that awards had become mockery of our system.
These two tweets say a lot. The second tweet comes exactly after 6 years. I agree that the governments are different and one may argue that it’s an issue based honest opinion. But the fact that he his talking about his own award says something else! And he has been constantly talking, tweeting and canvassing for the Modi government. So, most of the people see it as a reward for his pro-government efforts!
Some people support this kind of politics saying even the previous governments did the same by awarding people that supported them. But then, we were talking about “change”. Where is the change?? Some of us didn’t expect the same unfair politics by this government. We thought we would see CHANGE! Alas!
